Primedia Online, Umuntu Media team up

Primedia Online has teamed up with Umuntu Media to provide a comprehensive content solution for the company’s African portals.

Cape Town-based Umuntu Media recently added two new portals to its stable – iZimbabwe.co.zw and iBotswana.co.bw – which were launched in November 2011. These local lifestyle portals will deliver relevant local content focusing on entertainment, property, jobs, news and so much more to users in each country. At the same time, Umuntu is relaunching iNamibia.co.na and iZambia.co.zm, which have both seen significant growth since their initial launch in January 2011.

Primedia Online Business Development Manager Susan Hansford said: “Umuntu Media approached us to supply content for their existing and newly opening portals. Primedia Online is always looking for new opportunities to take the iafrica.com content to wider audiences.

“In total over 230 articles will be made available, providing visitors with the latest celebrity gossip, music and movie news, food recipes, relationship advice, wellness, gadget news and fashion galleries. New content will refresh on a daily and weekly basis depending on the sections.”

Johan Nel, the Umuntu Media CEO and founder, said: “We are a passionate start-up that drives local content and technology across Africa. Now is an exciting time for our continent and also for Umuntu, which we can see in the uptake of our local content portals. We are looking forward to the next phase, in which we will be aggressively rolling out seven more portals by April 2012.”

Hansford added: “This is hopefully just the first step and we are also exploring further opportunities together, with a view to forging a long-term relationship with such a forward thinking team headed up by Johan Nel.”

Syndication enquiries can be made through Susan Hansford.
