SXSW Winners

SXSW has been and gone, and with it, the biggest winners of the event are apparent.  And the best of the bunch?  Advertising and the iPad 2.

Last year, the biggest newsmakers were Twitter and foursquare.  Twitter was at its peak and SXSW only helped to cement that fact with the Twitter usage at the event.  The same can be said for foursquare, which was really used well at SXSW.  This year, those winners were slightly different.

Advertising, branding and marketing were pretty much the talking point.  It wasn’t all necessarily positive, but with many marketers, it’s a case of as long as the brand is getting noticed.  The advertising was clever and everywhere.  There are definitely more people thinking about their branding and advertising to help sell their products.

Apple have always been clever about their product launches and timelines, and this was no different.  Many SXSW attendees would’ve been disappointed to learn that the iPad 2 would be launching while they were on site, and therefore would not able to get one.  Apple kept everyone happy by opening up a pop-up store on SXSW campus to let people queue there.
